A Tulip In The Garden

I always know that Spring is here when the tulips start peeking up in the garden.

This week I decided to use these lovely bulbs as my inspiration. These photos were taken in my backyard on the first day that showed any sign of Springlike weather.

I love purple and red and I think they work well together.  All of the pieces are from Stein Mart. Pencil skirts were in last fall and they suit my body type so I stocked up. This red one is by Sharagamo and the watermelon jacket is by Baccini. I'm also wearing a purple Vintage Suzie tank that was photographed in detail but I suffered a slight "wardrobe malfunction" so those shots were nixed.

Of course you recognize the Coach and Four purple suede boots from Where's That Groundhog? They still work nicely when the weather is less frigid. Likewise, the purple Anne Klein Watch from Give A Girl The Right Pair Of Shoes and Art Nouveau inspired bangle from A Date With Inspiration are making encore appearances. I wanted to keep the accessories in the same color as the tank and boots.

Lest you forget I do use my polka-dotted crutches around the house and for short jaunts. They are from Cool Crutches and if you ever find yourself in need of some stylish crutches this website offers them in a variety of colors and patterns.

Fashion Friday: Pumpkin and Oxblood

This week I'm styling a pumpkin colored jacket similar to the one I purchased at Stein Mart a few weeks ago.

This shade of orange looks much better on me than Pantone's Summer 2012 color, Tangerine Tango. Here it is in a shawl-collared version of my trench jacket by 89th & Addison from Stein Mart.  It's paired with treggings in the season's trendy color, oxblood. The bag is a D Lisk Zip Detail Bar Handle Bag in the same color and can either be carried or worn crossbodied. In looking for shoes to pair with this outfit I found two pairs of oxfords that were almost identical save for the heel. Both are by Sperry and I thought it was worth using both heel heights as a styling option. The Merona Olive Self-Tie Felt Cloche hat from Target picks up on the green in the shoes and the leopard crutches from Cool Crutches add a little animal print to the equation.

Fashion Friday: Desperately Seeking Audrey

This week I wanted to do something fun and flirty yet chic and timeless. The idea came to me as I was watching "Desperately Seeking Susan" one day and "Breakfast At Tiffany's" several days later. It struck me how fashion forward and iconic both Madonna and Audrey Hepburn were for their respective generations. I decided to use some of the fun elements of the 80's, the Pink Wayfarers, the Malene Birger Cirkella Bangles, the Kenneth Jay Lane Multi-Shape Pink and Orange Dangle Earrings, and a Brahmin Marilyn Polka Dot Back Pack as an homage to Madonna. To marry this with Hepburn's classic sense of style I chose a White Forever New Sophia Polka Dot Dress, Oroton Pink Bowed Ballet Flats, and a Bow-Accent Striped Visor Hat. To complete the look we have my favorite Black with White Polka Dot Crutches from Coolcrutches.com.

Susan Go-Lightly? Maybe not, but close enough for me to wear without feeling like I'm stuck in my youth or doomed to middle-aged frump.

Fashion Friday: Summer Adventure

It's late July here in the US - and it's hot. Actually, that's an understatement. We've had an unusually hot summer so far. Just because it's hot doesn't mean you have to look sloppy or dress skimpily. Why not opt to look "cool" in every sense of the word?

The Carolina Prep blouson tunic top in aqua is airy yet sophisticated and looks terrific paired with the whimsical yellow cropped straight-legged jeans. The leather bag is a fairly demure mushroom with yellow accents and has both a handle and a shoulder strap depending on which method of carriage works best for you. Adding patterned espadrilles and a fun two-toned watch make the outfit youthful and you more approachable. If you are able to apply make up keep the palette neutral.

The crutch is a fashion statement in and of itself. You can find it and many others in terrific colors and patterns at Cool Crutches. Based out of the UK, I can personally vouch for the quality of their equipment. I own a pair myself and not only are they lighter in weight than generic crutches but, at $74.50 per crutch, I think they are a great value as well. If you need crutches get thee to this site immediately. Mine arrived within 48 hours of my internet purchase!
