Fashion Friday: The Aftermath

Everyone knows the week between Christmas and New Year's Day is the best time to shop if you want to stretch your cash. It's also a great time to celebrate the end of the season - and the year.

At my house after Christmas sales are an extension of the holiday. I can shift the focus from getting the perfect gift for someone else to getting the best deals for myself. It also means Mr Spashionista and I can take in a movie or tuck into a cozy meal while we're out and about. Since we always celebrate New Year's Eve at home - where my attire is decidedly casual - I thought I would show you what I wore for my post-Christmas discount tour.

It was cold - mid-thirties and overcast cold - so I had to be sure the outfit I picked was warm enough to counter the weather, versatile enough to allow me to negotiate crowded stores in my chair, and fashionable enough to be noticed, in a good way.

Let's start with the gorgeous acrylic pencil skirt from Forever 21 in shades of royal blue, raspberry, lemon, and black. The blue cashmere Cynthia Rowley cowl necked sweater is from last year's Black Friday at Stein Mart. Yes, the Baccini jacket should look familiar by now. It's actually very warm, ultra-feminine, and picks up the berry tones in the skirt so it was the logical choice for today. The Chinese Laundry black tights were a must given the chilly temps, but I couldn't resist the blue sequin oxfords from Shi as a a little dash of New Year's sparkle.

Did you find something amazing in the post holiday aftermath?

Next month I'll tell you what I got and give you some pointers for shopping in 2013.

The outfits that I put together for Fashion Friday are based on my BODS profile. Sure, some of the items I use are beyond my price range but I’m certain I can find reasonable equivalents within my budget. I would love the opportunity to put some together for you for the next installment of Fashion Friday. If you’re interested email me with your BODS profile and we’ll make it happen!

I Got Presents!

I just thought I'd take a moment to share with you the lovely gifts I received for the holidays.

My wonderful friend Lani conspired with Matthew Perry Bretherick and got me this lovely pewter clutch with skulls detail from Shi. Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

My brother-in-law supplied the lovely purple paisley silk scarf. Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Mr Spashionista did a great job picking wonderful presents for me this year. Here's a stationary exercise peddler I've been wanting (yes, really). Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

I love this purple floral cover for my Note tablet. Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

He really outdid himself in the jewelry department. The bracelet features some of Alphonse Mucha's pieces depicted in charms. Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

If the necklace looks familiar it's because I already own a companion piece in amethyst. Like it's mate, the amber necklace is from 1902 and was made in Prague from Sworovski crystals. Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App

Later today we'll treat ourselves to a home-cooked steak dinner. It's supposed to snow tomorrow but we're already planning our after-Christmas shopping strategy.

How about you? Did you get what you wanted for the holidays?

Fashion Friday: Christmas Day In The Morning

Early next week many of us will be celebrating Christmas in one form or another. Some of us will stay home to open presents and spend time with our immediate families. Others will invite extended family members over for the day. Some will go to religious services or less casual family functions. No matter how you celebrate I've got a great outfit for you.

Christmasday

If you're just lazing around the house, maybe cooking Christmas breakfast, you should still look cute. Start with a pair of flannel leggings - these have a Christmas deer pattern. Top them with a "Mistletoe" novelty knit, and pad around in these ivory cable knit slouch booties.

If you're hosting or visiting family try this Blue Canyon Christmas Snow Town Tee over a great pair of jeans with red Bronx brogues. The outfit is comfy enough to play with the kids and cook Christmas dinner without being dowdy.

Finally, if your plans are more upscale Santa has you in mind. How about a McQ Alexander McQueen knit and lace sweater dress and a pair of red Giuseppe Zanotti Crystal-embellished suede ballet flats?

Naturally, before you leave the house you'll need to add a coat to the second and third outfits if weather demands it . In my opinion outfit number one is strictly a stay-at-home ensemble.

However you celebrate, I hope Santa has left you wonderful fashionable goodies underneath your tree!

Fa La La La Friday: Here's My Card

We interrupt our regular Fashion Friday - just for this week, I promise - to bring you tidings of comfort and joy. xmas20125x7onone

As you all may know I am an artist (or I think I'm an artist, depending on whether you like my art or not). It normally takes me a long time to finish a piece, but a hand injury earlier this year has precluded me doing anything artistic at all. Two weeks ago I decided I would attempt to do a holiday card, figuring I'd never be able to finish in time given my injury and everything else I had to do.

As you can see, I was clearly wrong.  Rendered in Poser Pro 2012, postworked in Photoshop CS5. It was the angel iconography all around me that inspired the image, entitled, "Angelic Message". So here is my card to all of you. The inside reads, "May the joy of the season remain in your heart long after the holidays are over".

Thank you for making my holiday season a happy one!

Angels And Ministers Of Grace

Are all around us this time of year. Not necessarily in a religious sense, but the iconography is everywhere, even in fashion.

Forget about the literality of the Victoria's Secret Angels. Even if you don't have wings tattooed to your back (ouch) you, too can rock an angelic look. The butterfly sleeves of summer have given way to the dolmans and ponchos of winter, emulating the flowing robes of the heavenly messengers.

How about some macaroni couture?

For your tree, of course. This tiny angel sits atop my mini purple Christmas tree. Made primarily out of painted pasta, it's actually a pin and was given to me by her creator, a complete stranger,  in a grocery store. She pulled this tiny bauble out of her bag and said, "Here. I hope it brings you lots of blessings." What better place for this gracious gift than on my mini tree where I can see it every day? I smile every time I look over at my glutenous tree topper.

Those of you that know me know that I'm no angel, but I do have my angelic moments. Last Saturday we had a family buffet which I had the pleasure of coordinating for a second time.

Twenty of hubby's family members from as far away as Memphis gathered to a ridiculous amount of food. We had so many desserts, which aren't pictured, that they needed their own table! I cooked a portion of our feast and others brought their offerings until we had the spread you see above. When it was all said and done there were copious amounts of leftovers, all of which were boxed up and distributed to needy families.

Because when you give to others with an unconditional heart you wear one of the most difficult accessories you can find nowadays; grace.
