A Bright Idea

Hmm, I'm not so sure. Let's see what you think.

In keeping with this month's theme this is definitely way outside of my comfort zone. The plum floral print is actually a shirt dress. It's from Express and I purchased it last year during the grand reopening of Opry Mills Mall for $17. It's 100% polyester, very unstructured, and too short - all three things I generally avoid. If I'm honest this is a "what was I thinking?" moment. Initially my intention was to wear it over a pair of pants for 40+style's fashion challenge. That was an epic fail of a look. It made me appear even shorter and rounder than I am.

On to Plan B, which is what you're seeing here. I tucked the dress into this royal blue Briggs New York pencil skirt from Ross. The colors work well together and the floral print is large but not overwhelming, but I'm not entirely convinced the shapes are complimentary. It is better sitting than standing, which is a blessing because I maneuvered through ThriftSmart in my chair. Minimal bling here; both the crystal cuff and Medic Alert bracelet were made for me by my friend Charisse. The white Not Rated oxfords are from last Summer but remain among my favorite warm weather shoes.

What do you think? Does this dress work or does it need to be evicted from my closet?

Waiting to hear from all of you lovely ladies at Visible Monday and Monday Mingle.

Fashion Friday: A Purrfect Outfit

This week's Fashion Friday is a little unusual in that I'm actually in it.

Yes, I'm back at Shi, but this time my motive was to visit my friend Matty. You remember Matty from my post That Cinderella Moment? Well, I've been so busy it's been a while since we've connected in person. Besides, I wanted to show him how well my Not Rated King of Pop oxfords (pictured on the left) went with my uber thrifty outfit. I'm wearing my $7 Westbound Petite thrift store jeans along with a $9 red Cable and Gauge tank top with silver hoop embellishments and an $11 ForCynthia white dolmen sleeved sweater. Not bad for just shy of $30, right?

But Matty knows me well, and knows my weakness for chicness. When he brought out these Sugar Leopard Print ankle boots - with a 3" wedge heel - three things raced through my mind in the following order...

"Love, love, love, want, want, want!"

"They probably won't fit."

"I can't stand up in a heel that high."  Remember, if I can't at least stand in the shoes I can't have them.

Not only did they fit, they fit perfectly! That takes care of thought number two. As far as the heel height is concerned, because wedges are by design more stable I stood up not once, not twice, but three times with ease and confidence.

That just leaves the initial thought. Yes, I bought them and I will wear them often!

Fashion Friday: Pumpkin and Oxblood

This week I'm styling a pumpkin colored jacket similar to the one I purchased at Stein Mart a few weeks ago.

This shade of orange looks much better on me than Pantone's Summer 2012 color, Tangerine Tango. Here it is in a shawl-collared version of my trench jacket by 89th & Addison from Stein Mart.  It's paired with treggings in the season's trendy color, oxblood. The bag is a D Lisk Zip Detail Bar Handle Bag in the same color and can either be carried or worn crossbodied. In looking for shoes to pair with this outfit I found two pairs of oxfords that were almost identical save for the heel. Both are by Sperry and I thought it was worth using both heel heights as a styling option. The Merona Olive Self-Tie Felt Cloche hat from Target picks up on the green in the shoes and the leopard crutches from Cool Crutches add a little animal print to the equation.
