A Black And White Solution

It's that tenuous time of year in Nashville when Winter and Spring are wrestling for control weatherwise. One day it's warm enough for a light jacket. The next you're back to huddling up in a heavy coat. It can be challenging for me to dress for the day's weather depending on what I will be doing. I can't wear a lot of layers because if it gets too warm to wear all of them I only have a small backpack on my wheelchair to stow them in. Sometimes the solution is very black and white.

The pants are Larry Levine black and white pinstripe with a built-in belt. This will likely be the last time I wear them because they are too big and have too many convoluted fasteners for my uncoordinated fingers. My black and white Vans are a nod to the classic Saddle shoes I wore as a young adult. The red Urban Expressions bag is this winter's go to because it doesn't have zippers or fasteners that snag delicate knitwear.

You've seen this while dolman sleeved For Cynthia sweater before, last fall to be specific in Fashion Friday: A Purrfect Outfit. It's an ideal between seasons piece because you can pair it with another sweater underneath for colder days or a tank like this black studded Mishca for Springlike temps.

Accessories are kept to a minimum. Just my red bracelet and Medic Alert Cuff. But I'm sure you're not looking at my wrist. As promised in my Passionate About Nashville's Wild Hare post here is the dessert I've been teasing you over. That luscious confection is The Wild Hare's Flourless Chocolate Torte. It's my favorite chocolate dessert in all of Nashville - and that's saying something because I'm quite the chocoholic. I could eat this diet-wrecker everyday and it takes a Herculean effort for me to pass it up.

As I write this it's 70 degrees. Tomorrow we're back into the 50's and 30's for a few days. I may get to wear this sweater again this week.

Thanks as always to Patti for the Visible Monday linkup.

Fashion Friday: A Purrfect Outfit

This week's Fashion Friday is a little unusual in that I'm actually in it.

Yes, I'm back at Shi, but this time my motive was to visit my friend Matty. You remember Matty from my post That Cinderella Moment? Well, I've been so busy it's been a while since we've connected in person. Besides, I wanted to show him how well my Not Rated King of Pop oxfords (pictured on the left) went with my uber thrifty outfit. I'm wearing my $7 Westbound Petite thrift store jeans along with a $9 red Cable and Gauge tank top with silver hoop embellishments and an $11 ForCynthia white dolmen sleeved sweater. Not bad for just shy of $30, right?

But Matty knows me well, and knows my weakness for chicness. When he brought out these Sugar Leopard Print ankle boots - with a 3" wedge heel - three things raced through my mind in the following order...

"Love, love, love, want, want, want!"

"They probably won't fit."

"I can't stand up in a heel that high."  Remember, if I can't at least stand in the shoes I can't have them.

Not only did they fit, they fit perfectly! That takes care of thought number two. As far as the heel height is concerned, because wedges are by design more stable I stood up not once, not twice, but three times with ease and confidence.

That just leaves the initial thought. Yes, I bought them and I will wear them often!

The outfits that I put together for Fashion Friday are based on my BODS profile. Sure, some of the items I use are beyond my price range but I’m certain I can find reasonable equivalents within my budget. I would love the opportunity to put some together for you for the next installment of Fashion Friday. If you’re interested email me with your BODS profile and we’ll make it happen!

Fashion Friday: Très "Shic"

C'mon, you knew it was coming, didn't you?

Take one outfit, four methods of perambulation, eight different shoe styles and four bags courtesy of Shi by Journeys, and what do you get?

Can't-miss fabulousness and on-trend, whimsical "Shic" no matter how old you happen to be!

The outfit is comprised of basics; straight-legged dark wash jeans, detailed tank top, and a neutral structured jacket perfect for everything from back-to-school to casual Friday. All can be had in a wide range of styles and prices. The accent here is on how the various footwear and bag choices change the tone of the overall look. I don't own any of these specific items (yet. The Nahla high-heeled boot is calling my name!) but I have scored all these styles from Shi via my fashion angel Matthew Bretherick. You can go for the sneaker option and look casual yet put-together. You can opt for the oxfords and channel your inner preppie. If you're feeling girly go for the more delicate flats. When the summer heat abates break out the boots. Finally, note that all the bag styles have shoulder or crossbody length straps and two have handles for even more versatility.

In short there are, what, 32 possible combinations with the pictured accessories alone? Imagine how many more you'll find when you visit Shi, either online or in person!
