Amanda Valentine: Bond Villain Badass

I  never pass up an opportunity to wear Amanda Valentine - and neither should you. When I wore this outfit to a party and my friend Andrew Clancey told me I looked like a Bond villain I knew it needed to be photographed.

I'm also giving away two tickets to see the Vagina Monologues benefitting Act Like a GRRRL at City Winery!

Aladdin Sane

I wasn't going to write about David Bowie. Not here, anyway; I figured it would just be overkill. There comes a point where too much attention, too much emotion is desensitizing. But there are tangible reasons why so many were moved by his passing. One of my friends wrote on Facebook, "He was more important than the music; he gave us permission to be unusual and be proud of it". Another observed that we mourn not because we knew him, but because he helped us to know ourselves. As someone who is unusual by default and not by choice, those words really resonate with me.

Nashville Designer Showcase Preview

It's time to start talking about the upcoming events for Nashville Fashion Week  2015 in earnest. For my part, it's interesting to revisit the idea of a Nashville Fashion Week and compare it to my experiences and expectations during NFW2014. I was a novice last year, and it was an honor to be  able to cover it as part of the Media. The fashion community isn't necessarily eager to embrace diversity, which made my attendance and the accommodations made for my disability all the more impressive. Remember, this year it's up to you to get me to NFW2015. Clink here or on the graphic in the sidebar to help get me there.

There's something for everyone here, so I thought I'd give you a guide of sorts to some of Nashville's most unique shops - just in case you'd like to drop by or visit them online.

Amanda Valentine/Margaret Ellis Jewelry

If you're a fan of Project Runway you already know that my friend Amanda Valentine came oh-so-close to winning it all with her Fall 2014 collection. So close that the majority of viewers felt her designs should have garnered the grand prize. But Nashville knows a good thing when it sees it. Valentine has really found her point of view as a designer and her voice as one of Music City's creatives. She collaborated with fellow Nashvillian McLaine Richardson, owner of Margaret Ellis Jewelry, to create the Roman Holiday jewelry collection.
