No doubt you've noticed by now that I don't wear many earrings in my outfit posts. It's not because I don't like them. In fact, when I was a teen I had my ears pierced and wore lots of earrings. The problem was I found it increasingly more and more difficult to get the post through the piercing without stabbing the crap out of myself and, eventually, causing infections. I tried switching to clip-ons, but was disappointed in the lack of variety, not to mention the unimpressiveness of their clasps. They were either too loose to stay on my ears or so tight I didn't want them on my ears
Last month Lisa Harris of Boyer New York wrote me a lovely email inviting me to try their line of clip earrings and a few other high-end costume jewelry pieces. So that's exactly what I did. *

Boyer New York has been around since the 1970's and their products are made right here in the US. They have a pretty extensive array, with a great many of their pieces geared towards brides and bridal parties. But the rest of their collection tends to appeal to women in their fifties, and not just aesthetically. This company is smart enough to make their jewelry easy to put on and take off. That goes a long way with someone like me who has fine motor issues. The Black Pearl and Knot Choker has a secure but easy to clasp hook and the Turquoise Bead Necklace has a magnetic closure. The earrings all have a secure enough clip to stay put painlessly - although my earlobes did sting for about 10 seconds after removing them, and the toggle clasp on the French Rope Bracelet was easy enough for me to put on and take off myself..
Lisa sent me these coordinated sets, and they are all lovely worn as such, but I chose to break them up or wear them in unconventional pairings. This keeps the styling younger, edgier, and more in tune with the vibe in Nashville. I loved the idea of wearing the Black Pearl and Knot Choker for my birthday in Celebrating 53 with one white and one black Oblong Drop Earring - I essentially broke up two sets to form my own pairing - and added the French Rope Chain Bracelet. A week later I was out and about in one of Music City's newest little shopping enclaves and used the Turquoise Bead Necklace as a pop of color for my otherwise neutral outfit. I bought the hat and plum-colored bracelet that day so, although they look fab, neither were taken into account when I chose my accessories. The Rectangle Chain Drop Earrings still work with the look post-hat-and-bangle as well. I saved the Turquoise Enamel Small Knot Earrings for a trip to the Nashville Flea Market. They look great with the paper woven cloche I wore to the fairgrounds (more on that in a future post) and the turquoise Zephyr hat I found there that day.
