Any Old Iron Fashion Show

When you think of Nashville's fashion scene you don't necessarily think of punk.

That is, not until now.

British-born Andrew Clancey has relocated Any Old Iron, his punk-inspired UK designer clothing boutique, from the Big Apple to Music City. Clancey enlisted the help of fashion-forward Nashvillians - including me -  to convince the city council that his clothing shop was a good fit for it's Shelby Avenue location. Because the building is wheelchair accessible it was my pleasure to support Clancey in turning an old grocery store into one of the coolest boutiques to grace this town yet.

I'll bring you a feature on the store very soon. Right now I want to show you some highlights from Any Old Iron's debut fashion show in Nashville's East Ivy Mansion.

East Ivy has to be one of Nashville's loveliest venues. Built in 1867, it's tucked away off of 5th Street and has renovated to include some wheelchair accessibility. The staff went out of their way to give me the information and assistance I needed to get poolside without a hitch. We were treated to some great cocktails courtesy of Deep Eddy Vodka and got the chance to mingle with some very fashionable and friendly folks.

The vibe was relaxed but the soundtrack was pure punk - Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Sex Pistols - and the clothes were everything Nashville needs right now.  Make way, Manuel, for Vivienne Westwood and Religion. For skulls and black leather and safety pins. Lots of safety pins; hundreds braided into hair and bedazzling (bepunking?) jackets and shirts. For a big dose of attitude to add to this latitude.

And I love, love, love it. Finally, I can dress my inner Punk; and yes,. I was, and yes, I still am. Was there really any doubt? I did manage to snag an Any Old Iron tee, the profits from which went to Nashville's Tiny But Mighty fund for dogs. I am about to order a boatload of safety pins.
