Today is Martin Luther King Day. Looking back it can be difficult for younger people to understand why any caring person would comply with the unfair rules of segregation that Dr. King worked to remove. If I told you today there was still a business in your neighborhood with a physical barrier outside it's door to prevent a minority from coming in you would most likely be outraged. Surely, you would refuse to do business in that establishment. So my question is this. Why do you?

Ballgowns And Barriers

Last month I put on my best outrageous vintage lavender gown, complete with built-in capelet (as one does) and headed for costumer extraordinaire Manuel's Christmas Party. The party took place at The Standard which, according to their page on Yelp, is wheelchair accessible. But it isn't. Not even close. So I sat there in my lavender gown feeling left out and foolish. I had to leave.

Pura Vida Vintage Reopens & NFW2015 Explained

Today is Spashionista's birthday. Seriously, it's not an April Fool's joke; the blog turns three today. I am very, very proud of several things that Spashionista has accomplished so far. It's safe to say that I've raised awareness of curvy, 50+ women with disabilities. Pura Vida Vintage reopened last week in a new, wheelchair accessible location, and you can expect to see me in lots of Pura Vida Vintage pieces, expertly altered to fit me by Only One Tailoring. In fact, if all goes well, next week you'll see me in vintage from several local shops. Speaking of which, many of you are having trouble finding the links to Nashville Fashion Week. I'll try to simplify it for you in this post

Saints and Sinners Pictorial

Hosted by 12th & Broad, Saints and Sinners gave us all a chance to choose between the seven deadly sins or the seven holy virtues in an interactive manner. Guests were encouraged to eat, drink and play games, along with many opportunities to get in shape and donate time, money, or unwanted items to their community. We were also encouraged to, "wear red if you're a sinner or white if you're a saint".

Riverwood Mansion

This week finds me feeling unwell and shivering in the bleak, frigid January weather. Nevertheless, I'm excited to show off Riverwood Mansion, another of Nashville's historic homes.

Gothic Circus

I didn't don a costume for Halloween this year. Instead I dressed up for a very special event. It was a dark and stormy night - really, it was - perfect weather for the Gothic Circus sponsored by 12th & Broad and hosted by Abrasive Media. A celebration of Nashville's growing community of circus artists, the evening's performances included "awe-inspiring aerialists, fire artists, burlesque dancers and graceful acrobatics— blended into narratives, creating a dramatic, sophisticated mash-up of theater, live performances and the body as art."
