Stitch Fix: My Second Fix

For a while now I have been focusing on Music City's local goods and vendors. But what do you do when you don't have the time to physically go shopping, or the inclination to devote an afternoon or more to picking out the perfect outfit?

That's when you turn to the Internet, and to Stitch Fix in particular. I talked about this online shopping and styling site before, and even made a video about my first "fix". If you recall I had issues with either the style or the fit of four out of five items in that initial box, and I let them know in detail when I filled out the feedback form that accompanied the items I returned.

I ordered a second "fix" just before Nashville Fashion Week and, judging from what Stitch Fix sent it was clear they took my feedback into account. The second box was very different from the first. Every single piece they sent was stylish, fit well and worked beautifully within the parameters I gave them.

See what I mean? I'm wearing four of the five pieces that came in my "fix". You've already seen most of them separately, including at Nashville Fashion Week. These shots were taken in Nashville's Centennial Park, which is home to the Parthenon and the NC&StL Train. This train is here to commemorate the 107 years of service by the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway.

While it's true that if you use the links supplied above and then order a "fix" I get a credit, I would recommend Stitch Fix even if that wasn't the case. It may take some trial and error, but you will likely find it worth it when you start getting fixes that are perfect for you.

On a different note, I finally had to break down and get some dictation software for my computer. My typing was getting slower and sloppier and my hand was hurting too much to make my time at the PC worthwhile so I finally ordered a newer copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking, because my version was ancient (so much so that it wouldn't even install on my PC) and klunky. I've only had it for several days and it will take me a while to train it and understand its capabilities. Ultimately, I hope to be able to do what I'm doing faster and more efficiently so that I can start visiting and commenting on more and more of your blogs. I'm dictating this right now. But it's taking forever, and it looks like I'm going to need a more powerful processor to run this with any kind of success.

Finally, I need to correct an omission that may definitely be to your benefit. Several months ago my friend Beth Hopkins, author of In Case of Fire, Use Stairs, posted a "Pay It Forward" initiative on Facebook. I stepped up - and then promptly forgot to repost it. A few days ago another Facebook friend posted it and I felt like a jerk for having forgotten. So I added my name to his list, too, and changed the number below to reflect that.

Here's how this wonderful idea works:

  • The first ten people who comment on this post with "I'm in" and a valid email address will receive a surprise from me at some point during this calendar year--anything from a book, a ticket, something home-grown, homemade, a post card, absolutely any surprise!

  • There will be no warning and it will happen when the mood comes over me and I find something I think would suit you and make you happy.

  • These ten people must make the same offer on their Facebook status, G+ status, or blog post. Just copy and paste it from right here.

I will email the lucky ten to get their snail mail addresses. There's so much snark and drama on the Internet, how about we do something nice for each other? The more pebbles of generosity we throw into the waters of life, the bigger the ripples they cause.
