Ballgowns And Barriers

Last month I put on my best outrageous vintage lavender gown, complete with built-in capelet (as one does) and headed for costumer extraordinaire Manuel's Christmas Party. The party took place at  The Standard which, according to their page on Yelp, is wheelchair accessible. But it isn't. Not even close. So I sat there in my lavender gown feeling left out and foolish. I had to leave.

A Pilgrim's Progress

Not to be confused with the Christian allegory The Pilgrim's Progress. This is my journey, one that I'm thankful to have the opportunity to traverse. Big changes are coming for Spashionista. I value every single one of you that take the time to read and follow on social media. I'm thankful I don't have to go it alone.

Throwback To Paris Vintage Fashion Show

It's no secret that my wardrobe is pretty much an everyday runway show for Pura Vida Vintage.  So it came as no surprise to find out that owner/curator Krystle Ramos' impeccable fashion sense is sought after by more than just yours truly. Last month  Ramos was contacted to be the featured designer for a show hosted by Tennessee State University. Called "Throwback to Paris", the runways highlighted  a collection of vintage dresses and outerwear inspired by Paris in the 1950's.

Little Luna Vintage

I just love it when I get to showcase a local shop I'm excited about. Until recently I hadn't even heard of Little Luna Vintage . Then shop manager and stylist Brittany Gargis and I started running into each other on a regular basis at various events, and she convinced me I had to come in. I'm so glad I did.

NFW Party & Call For Nashville Emerging Designer 2016

If you ever scoffed at the idea of "must have" garments (like I once did) this outfit should change your mind. I got all three pieces from one of my favorite shops, Couture for a Cause - which means half of the profits went towards local charities. The reason I got dressed up in the first place was to attend the early kickoff party for Nashville Fashion Week 2016 at 5th and Taylor.  The dates for the 2016 shows were announced, as was the call for applicants for next year's regional Emerging Designer and 2015 Nashville Fashion Forward Fund.

Llynda More Boots

It's no secret that it's close to impossible for me to find knee-high boots that fit properly. Wide feet and calves coupled with petite proportions make for hours of trying on boots with little to no success. But I have found a clever, beautiful solution to my problem. One that all of you can benefit from as well. A boot for virtually every woman.

Talking Fashion with Care Abilities

Today's post is all about being seen and heard. If you'd like to hear what I have to say about fashion and disability listen to my interview on Care Abilities at CA 15: Alicia Searcy on Fashion, Style and Choreoathetotic Cerebral Palsy.  Also, last month we attended a local county's benefit version of Dancing with the Stars featuring some of it's most illustrious residents - which, of course, includes my friend Sunny Fitz of Sunnyband.

Curated And A Perfect Fit

Last week I attended Nashville's first annual Curated fashion show. I was in some pretty glamorous company, wasn't I? Good thing I found this gorgeous vintage 1940's dress at Pura Vida Vintage. This dress is one of the few that fit me perfectly without having to make any alterations. The idea of an "off the rack" body is a myth. Yet I watch so many women torture themselves if every garment they try on doesn't fit right off the bat.
