Amanda Valentine/Margaret Ellis Jewelry

If you're a fan of Project Runway you already know that my friend Amanda Valentine came oh-so-close to winning it all with her Fall 2014 collection. So close that the majority of viewers felt her designs should have garnered the grand prize. But Nashville knows a good thing when it sees it. Valentine has really found her point of view as a designer and her voice as one of Music City's creatives. She collaborated with fellow Nashvillian McLaine Richardson, owner of Margaret Ellis Jewelry, to create the Roman Holiday jewelry collection.

Gothic Circus

I didn't don a costume for Halloween this year. Instead I dressed up for a very special event. It was a dark and stormy night - really, it was - perfect weather for the Gothic Circus sponsored by 12th & Broad and hosted by Abrasive Media.  A celebration of Nashville's growing community of circus artists, the evening's performances included "awe-inspiring aerialists, fire artists, burlesque dancers and graceful acrobatics— blended into narratives, creating a dramatic, sophisticated mash-up of theater, live performances and the body as art."

Any Old Iron Fashion Show

When you think of Nashville's fashion scene you don't necessarily think of punk. That is, not until now. British-born Andrew Clancey has relocated Any Old Iron, his punk-inspired UK designer clothing boutique, from the Big Apple to Music City. I'll bring you a feature on the store very soon. Right now I want to show you some highlights from Any Old Iron's debut fashion show in Nashville's East Ivy Mansion.

Fall Fashion Bash

A few months ago I was contacted by Sunny Fitz, owner and creator of  the Sunnyband empire. We've become fast friends, and I'll bring you and in-depth interview with her in a few weeks. I promise it'll be worth the wait, because Sunny and I are going to give you a chance to win one of her whimsical pieces. In the meantime, let's have a look at some of her fabulous headbands and fascinators.

Fashion For A Fraction Fall 2014

Nashville has many wonderful boutiques filled with the latest styles from the nation's top designers. Some of them are physically inaccessible (at least for now. I'm working on changing that) and some of them are beyond my budget. Fortunately, twice a year the Nashville Scene - Music City's finest weekly publication - sponsors Fashion for a Fraction, an event that gives area boutiques the opportunity to come together in a common location and clear out their seasonal clothing.

It's Been A Hard Day's Night

And I've been working like a dog - with a dog - and getting by with a little help from my friends. I usually spend July 4th at home because my neighbors put on a fireworks show that rivals most public displays. This year I got to do something even more special. I got to spend the day with my friend Beth, who also has Cerebral Palsy and writes In Case of Fire Use Stairs

Music City Hair Ball

My better half and I had the honor of attending the first annual Music City Hair Ball. Hosted by 12th & Broad, the Music City Hair Ball was the first-of-its-kind event celebrating creative expression in the most absurd ways possible. As if all of this wasn't enticing enough proceeds from the event, as well as the silent auction featuring works of art and other goodies, benefitted AGAPE animal rescue.
